The UFC on Saturday leans into its latest main event, as Dricus Du Plessis puts his middleweight crown on the line against the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev. Meanwhile, Bellator MMA refugee Aaron Pico makes his long-awaited Octagon debut opposite the unbeaten Lerone Murphy in the three-round featherweight co-headliner at 145 pounds.
Du Plessis, 31, enters the cage with the wind of an 11-fight winning streak in his sails. He last suited up at UFC 312, where he took a five-round unanimous decision from Sean Strickland in their Feb. 8 rematch. Du Plessis boasts 20 finishes—11 by submission, nine by knockout or technical knockout—among his 23 professional victories. On the other side of the equation, Chimaev has passed every test placed in front of him to this point. The 31-year-old Allstars Training Center product sports a perfect 14-0 record with 12 wins via stoppage. Chimaev last saw action on Oct. 26, when he put away Robert Whittaker with a face crank in the first round of their UFC 308 confrontation.
UFC 319 “Du Plessis vs. Chimaev” also features a welterweight scrap matching Carlos Prates with Geoff Neal, a middleweight battle pitting Jared Cannonier against Michael Page and a flyweight affair pairing Tim Elliott with Kai Asakura. A middleweight tilt slotting Kill Cliff Fight Club’s Gerald Meerschaert opposite former Thunderstrike Fight League champion Michael Oleksiejczuk highlights the primary undercard, which airs on ESPN and streams to ESPN+ at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. UFC Fight Pass and ESPN+ carry the early prelims at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT.
